The Increasing Incidence of Cutaneous Malignant Melanoma (CMM) In Ireland

The Increasing Incidence of Cutaneous Malignant Melanoma (CMM) In Ireland
Cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM), is considered the most serious type of skin cancer because of its rapid ability to spread to other parts of the body, including the eye. It starts when melanocytes become abnormal and invade and destroy the normal cells around them. Melanoma can begin either in an existing mole or as a new growth on the skin. The number of people in the world who develop melanoma is increasing each year, although I have had to revise down the incidence in Ireland to account for more up to date statistics.
